We spent our morning getting organized for our onward travels to the Amazon and Arequipa. Then we met Percy and Edson for a splendid lunch. I was finally able to make notes about some of the things our guides had told us. (I was always too tired on the trek to write anything down!)
One of the key learnings was the social system of work started by the Incas: Anyi, Mita, Minka. Anyi is all about families to pitch in to help each other, e.g. putting on a new roof or building a house. Mita is the tribute to the government. Minka encompasses the community works, e.g. building a temple, or fixing a road. This system dates from the Inca times and is still in practice today. Percy shared his orchid photos.
